ABOUT THE BLOCK:
Madarihat-Birpara Block extending to a stretch of 38096.17 hectares towards the northeast of Jalpaiguri District has a landscape of lush green tea gardens, high hills, deep forests and gushing rivers with variety of species of flora and fauna.

Its population of 202068 is divided into a diverse culture notwithstanding a juxtaposition of different communities like Bengali, Nepali, Muslim, Adivasi, Rava, Mech, Garo & Toto, having their origin back to different places in India.

Madarihat-Birpara Block is bordered by Bhutan Hills in the north with Dhupguri Block and Torsa River bordering east. In the south and west, it is bordered by Falakata Block.

The people of this place are peace loving and hard working notwithstanding several indispensable problems like Tea Garden lockouts, flood and health related problems. The 19 numbers of tea gardens present in this block often face lack of proper maintenance and finances albeit some good companies running some of them. Besides, the seasonal rivers flowing down the hills of Bhutan often run amok over inhabited and arable land throughout the block during monsoon.

In spite of hardships and plagued by some occasional problems, this nondescript region of North Bengal is slowly emerging into one of the tourist destinations in the map of West Bengal with its places of visits like the Jaldapara National Park, South Khairbari Nature Park for rehabilitation of Tiger and Totopara Mining  Picnic Spots, Tea Gardens, Makrapara Kali Mandir and the neighbouring Bhutanese town of Gumptu Bhutan.
